Professor Jodie Hanzlik is an occupational therapist with years of experience as faculty and Department Head in the CSU Department of Occupational Therapy and as Dean of the Graduate School. She and family and friends have provided funds to support up to four CSU OT PhD Jodie Hanzlik Student Scholars in the upcoming year. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The PhD student will work alongside a mentor to develop research skills. These funds are meant to support the development or enhancement of research skills to support the student’s research trajectory and may or may not include a specific product, for example grant writing, data analyses, research techniques, or manuscript development. The student and mentor will propose the skills/project, number of hours (up to 50 hours), and a duration of time (semester, summer, full year). The funds may start in summer 2025 and be used throughout June 2026. These hours are in addition to any assistantship the students is currently completing. Funding is meant for hourly funds for the student, not travel or training. The student will receive $25 an hour for this work and be named a Jodie Hanzlik Student Scholar. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • The PhD mentor and student must develop this proposal together.
  • Include the skills the students will develop during the time as a Scholar.
  • Describe the proposed work and skill development that the PhD student will complete during the time of being a Scholar.

    • Year of PhD program and expected year of graduation with PhD

  • Number of hours proposed (up to 50 hours)
  • Dates of proposed work (may be a semester, summer, full year, completed by June 2026)
  • Proposed work and skill development and how this will support the student, include any relevant details or planned research products (500 words max). Selected students will have discussed how the new skills will impact their degree and training.
  • Include a one-page letter of support from the mentor to support the student in these additional endeavors and hours. Keep this simple as your mentors are very busy.

 

Additional information: 

  • This could be training that is achieved with someone beyond your mentor – and all included individuals must agree to participate.
  • This is considered taxable income.
  • This funding pays for your hours – not any training or travel.
