Research Assistant Intern

June - August 2018 • Waltham, MA

What I liked

I really like the people and the environment there; everyone was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I also had a lot of mentoring from my supervisors who made time to go over important structures with me. I felt like I was really doing research that could make a difference in peopel's lives.

What I wish was different

I think I would have liked a little more feedback on what I was doing.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and to really get involved in the research that you're working on.

What I liked

I liked the people and the academic atmosphere. I also enjoyed working in a team-based environment, and I was given the same type of work that real research assistants would be given.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been less downtime and that the work was more challenging and gave me more opportunities to learn new skills.

Advice

If you hear about a project that you are interested in working on, contact people working on it. There is a good chance they will happy to have you join their project team.

Test Development Intern

June - July 2017 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The training experience was very strong, as I felt not only very prepared to do my job, but also very prepared as a member of the workforce - AIR really cares about the intern as a whole person, not just what they can do for the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I hadn't had to take public transportation from Baltimore to Washington every day (but it's doable, especially in the short term!)

Advice

Take advantage of the workshops and talks that AIR offers for interns to attend - not only are they valuable resources, but you often get free food!

Research Assisstant

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

They gave me lots of really meaty work including quantitative data wrangling, qualitative interview coding, and technical assistance program development. There were lots of opportunities to ask for more work and seek out the specific kinds of projects I wanted.
