Amgen

Cell Line Development Summer Intern

May - August 2023 • Thousand Oaks, CA

What I liked

I loved working at such a large company and getting to work cross-functionally and learn about the many things Amgen works on! I also had the opportunity to relocate to California and explore a new part of the country!

Learning & Performance Intern

May - August 2018 • West Greenwich, RI

What I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed this internship because it was a very structured internship program with different intern events outside of work. We did different volunteering events and different teambuilding events throughout the summer. The work schedule was very flexible so you could work the hours that work best for you and everyone in the company was very supportive and willing to meet with you about what they do.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more structured shadowing opportunities so you could shadow someone in a field/position that you may be interested in working in the future. But as always, if you want to do this you could just reach out to someone and ask.

Advice

I would say to always be open and ask your manager what else you can do. This looks very good that you are eager to take on new projects and work on more things than your were originally assigned.

Undergraduate COOP

September 2021 • Juncos, PR

What I liked

I liked that it was my first experience in the laboral world. Also, everyone that I met was so wonderful and taught me a lot.

What I wish was different

I wish the work would’ve been different. And that I would’ve like to be more involved in projects.

Advice

I would share that if you ever get an experience like this, push, push and push your superiors to give you work and to teach you.

Global Commerical Operations Intern, Global Market Access

June - September 2020 • Thousand Oaks, CA

What I liked

I led multiple projects surrounding pharmaceutical reimbursement tracking, market access research, and global payer research. As a project manager focusing on the cardiovascular space, my role involved leading the construction of a tracking system for pharmaceutical reimbursement data from the ground-up, pulsing affiliates in our European, JAPAC, and Intercontinental offices, as well as creating a centralized internal website for market access and health economics information.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have been in person, however; with the backdrop of the pandemic, I understand the necessity for remote work.

Advice

Be proactive when it comes to virtual networking and when going through recruiting season for internships and full-time jobs, select opportunities that hedge against health crises. That is one of the reasons I looked toward big pharma.

Product Manager Intern

August 2017 • Paris, France

What I liked

They give me a lot of projects and responsibilities

What I wish was different

We do not have time to do everything. We are always in the rush and it is stressful. Also I am an apprentice so one week per month I have to go to school and it contributes to the rush because I only have 3 weeks per month to work. It’s part of it but sometimes frustrating.

Advice

Communicate a lot with your manager. Never say yes you can do it when you know you won’t be able to. When you start to job you want to give everything and say yes to everything but sometimes you have to learn how to priorize and to say no.

Data Science Intern

June - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

The office is awesome - right in the middle of Kendall square. Most FTEs are relatively young, so I felt like they were receptive to my ideas and input. I definitely feel like my work was appreciated.

What I wish was different

The office in Cambridge doesn't have a strong HR presence so there aren't many events / bonding opportunities for interns. I got to know the few who worked on my team, but not many others.

Biology Research Assistant

What I liked

Amgen Scholars internship program gave me housing and flew me out to LA for symposium during the summer. Program included scientific communication seminar course. Also had a good deal of independence in the lab.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given better-defined expectations and an idea of “reasonable” work. Some interns would work weekends and some regularly had short work days.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions

What I wish was different

I wish that I had less free times. At times it would get very slow.
